About the James Beard Foundation (JBF)


Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation celebrates, nurtures, and honors chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, the late James Beard was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful, and delicious food. Today JBF continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening.


Established in 1990, the James Beard Awards recognize culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields and furthers the Foundation’s mission to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. Each award category has an individual committee made up of industry professionals who volunteer their time to oversee the policies, procedures, and selection of judges for their respective Awards program. All JBF Award winners receive a certificate and a medallion engraved with the James Beard Foundation Awards insignia. There are no cash prizes.

Yvon Ros

Director of Sponsorships and Special Events


Yvon Ros is charged with overseeing all corporate sponsorship efforts and working closely with the culinary non-profit’s industry partners and special events team to coordinate signature JBF events. With the Foundation for over 20 years, Ros plays a vital role within the organization: in addition to her official position, her administrative responsibilities include working with the prestigious James Beard Awards committees.


Prior to joining the Foundation, Ros was the U.S. Director of Public Relations for The Danish Dairy Board, handling exhibits, large scale supermarket promotions, marketing campaigns and coordinating visits from foreign dignitaries nationwide, as well as developing the same initiatives in Japan.


Born and educated in Copenhagen, Denmark, Ros has had the opportunity to travel worldwide and is fluent in English, Danish, and French, and is conversant in German, Norwegian and Swedish. In addition to being the Goodwill Ambassador for the City of Copenhagen, Ros is well versed in international business and the food industry, as well as in cultural and social issues, circumstances and directions in Europe, North America and Japan.


Ros resides on the Upper West Side of New York City with her husband Bernard, chef and restaurateur of the French-themed Paname Restaurant, and their 15-year-old son, Remy.

Victoria Woo

Awards and Events Associate


Victoria Woo Woo works closely with the prestigious James Beard Awards committees to ensure the smooth execution of each stage of the Awards process from call for entry to judging. In addition to her responsibilities for the Awards, Woo is heavily involved in the procurement of donations for the foundation’s largest summer and winter fundraisers, JBF Chefs & Champagne and JBF Gala.


Woo currently resides on the Upper West Side of New York City with her husband Jeff, Digital Marketing Manager and Instagram influencer @foodmento.

Nora Thomas

Coordinator, National Council Relations & ESTO


Nora Thomas is a tourism marketing professional at the U.S. Travel Association in Washington, D.C. She and her team are responsible for creating educational and inspirational content for the annual Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations (ESTO). Nora manages the ESTO Awards program, which recognizes excellence in destination marketing on urban, regional and state levels. Nora has worked in destination marketing, events and tourism since 2006, for organizations such as Destination DC and Visit Austin in Austin, Texas. Nora holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Master of International Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. She has a passion for research, cultural and sustainable tourism, and destination marketing. Nora currently resides in Washington, D.C.
